The INPI in its Direction of Contracts and Technology and Other Registers has also as duty to register Programs of Computer, according to the Law nº 9,609/98, the Law nº 9,610 and Decree 2 556/98.
The register of computer program is a form to assure to the author the rights of exclusiveness in the production, use and commercialization of his creation.
In the international scope, the legal rules followed by the protection to the computer programs are established by the Convention of Bern, related to the rights of the author, and by the disposals of the Agreement on Relative Aspects of the Copyright to the Commerce - TRIPs.
The validity of the rights to the person who develops a computer program, and proves the authorship, is of 50 (fifty) years, starting on January 1st of the subsequent year from the "Date of Creation" – which means the date when the program is able to execute the function for which it was projected.
